Repeat as Necessary!
You need to hone your skills day in and day out. Learn from every opportunity, every interaction, every customer and use that information to improve your skills, your pitch, your technique.
Sales is an ever-evolving field. What works today may not work tomorrow. Your customers change, their needs change. The kid coming in to buy stationery has grown and now needs a business suit. That guy who used to come in with his friends now has a family and his purchasing pattern has changed. Some of your customers have moved away, others have moved in.
To cater to these changes, you not only need to be observant, you need to understand how you should change as well. Change your sales strategy, your sales pitch and dynamics to suit your customer’s evolving needs. Without these changes you will not be able to achieve customer satisfaction and the customer may start looking for alternatives.
Even if the customers remain the same, it may be that you are evolving as well. Your company has new products, new services, and expansion plans. All of these require you to learn, to understand and to adapt your sales pitch. Make sure you are devoting time to train and understand your products and your market.
The market may change as well. Technology, governance, attitudes and behaviors change. People’s perceptions change. Make sure you keep abreast of market dynamics and change accordingly. Sales evolved from selling in the market, to selling door-to-door, to tele-sales, to television, and now online. The sales person needs to evolve along with the changing dynamics to remain relevant.
Keep learning, keep evolving and remain on top of your game.
