Focus on Your Work

A common trait of procrastinators is that they try to do too many things at once. The task becomes daunting and therefore it is better left alone.

Rather than trying to do too many things at once, focus on one task at a time.

Imagine coming to work and worrying about reading and answering e-mails, making and returning phone calls, following up on orders, filing reports, preparing for meetings, managing meetings and so forth.

It’s tiring just thinking about it. Going through with it is another matter. Hence people tend to delay as much as possible.

Instead it is better to think of these as separate tasks and devoting some time to each. Devote time to each activity so you can focus on those tasks separately and give a hundred percent of your attention and efforts on the task.

Dividing work up into bite sized tasks makes it easier to tackle them. Rather than getting overwhelmed by and ignoring work, the work seems manageable and thus easier to do.

You also need to ensure that you remove distractions, so you can work wholeheartedly on the task at hand. Taking phone calls or answering e-mails while working ensures that your attention is divided, and you will not be able to give a 100% to any of your tasks.

Focusing on each individual task ensures that you can approach your work without overloading your nervous system. Completing each task also gives you a sense of accomplishment and boosts your confidence.
