Tackling the Worst First

Often you are left procrastinating about work as you leave the most difficult item on your to do list for the last.

The result is obvious, it never gets done.

Since the worst task is at the bottom of the list, you find innovative and creative ways to fill up your time. The simplest tasks are lingered upon and you do not rest until perfection is achieved in your margins.

Meanwhile, the difficult task stays undone at the bottom of your list and at the end of the workday you find that you have to carry it forward to the next.

You keep pushing it back till it reaches the deadline stage when you absolutely must do it. With the tight deadline and the difficulty of the task, you not only have a chance of making mistakes, your energy is also low as you have spent so much of it on so many other things.

Instead, try and schedule the difficult job as your first thing to do. With a fresh mind you may be able to complete the job sooner than expected. You will be able to give more time and energy as you do not have a deadline to worry about.

Best of all with the most difficult job done, the rest of the items on your plate will look easy and you will be able to breeze through them. Your productivity and confidence will improve and so will the quality of your work.
