The customer knows more about their business than you do.
Therefore, there will be things you do not understand completely. And that’s OK. What you need to do is understand as much about the aspects of the business that you can help them out with.
So, when you come up to an aspect of the customer’s business you do not understand, ask for more clarification.
It may turn out that there are opportunities to explore as the business of the customer becomes clearer. So, do not be ashamed to ask the customer to explain their business.
You’re the specialist in your own field and know the business you are in. Your ability to help your customer however depends on your ability to understand their business and find out how you can help them.
Your inquisitiveness would benefit your business as well as the customer who would be better served by you.
