Remove Distractions while Working
The phone pings and you pick it up. The computer sings as a new e-mail arrives. For some reason you have to know what the phone wants to say; you need to discover the gems in hidden in the e-mail.
In reality these are distractions from your work. You could be handling an important assignment which requires your undivided attention. You have a project to complete, a deadline to meet. However, the phone, the e-mail, the slightly offset pencil on the desk demands more attention.
These are nothing but distractions that take your attention away from work. Your focus should be entirely on your assignment and not on the messages on your phone, the posts on Facebook, the barrage of e-mails inundating your inbox.
You need to get rid of these distractions in order to focus on your work. Schedule time for work which means that you turn your phone to silent and turn off the computer screen so you can focus on your work.
This will require some getting used to and a whole lot of discipline. Nobody said it would be easy. Allot time for your work and stick to it while ignoring all other distractions. You can return calls later when you are done with your work. E-mails can be responded to in time allotted for them.
Bottom line, if you want to get the work done, you need to remove distractions from your workplace. Set some rules for the use of electronic devices and other distractions in the office and stick to them. Practicing discipline will help you achieve more.
